The new study results from the digitization specialists, Atlantic have shown the areas in which the technology the expertise of German user companies is still insufficient despite great progress. In the fields of artificial intelligence, process optimization and automation, in particular, companies often lack the specialist knowledge and expertise.
Based on the results of the study,
Atlantic has identified and assessed seven trends that companies should have on
their radar in 2021 because they will play a fundamental role in digitization
in the coming year.
1. Hybrid Multi-Cloud Architectures
Scalability, flexibility, and cost-efficiency are just three of the many reasons why, in recent years, more and more companies have opted for solutions from the cloud, including ERP or CRM systems, e-commerce solutions, or online data storage.
Current customer projects and discussions with experts show that this dynamic will increase even further in 2021 and that the trend in companies will continue to move towards hybrid multi-cloud architectures.
With this approach, different cloud solutions are
merged into one large application and data cloud.
Thomas Latajka, Managing Director of the valantic Competence Center ERP in Langenfeld, says: “In particular, the low costs, faster deployment, and greater flexibility of hybrid multi-cloud architectures offer companies real advantages.
On the other hand, the issues of IT security and data integrity also pose considerable challenges for operators:
The different systems and databases operated on distributed servers not only have to be protected against unauthorized access, but also have to be securely networked with one another so that they can be used as one homogeneous system can be used.
This problem will increase in the coming year with increasing
complexity and networking of the solutions. "
2. IT Sustainability and
Sustainability Through IT

popular Business and Technology trends in 2021”
Sustainability issues have been high on the agendas of companies, and not just since the “Fridays for Future” movement. In 2021, many IT managers and CIOs will push these topics forward even more decisively.
It is not only considerations that play a role as to how IT itself can become more sustainable in the sense of green IT so that B. energy and resource-saving, more durable, or recyclable.
The question of what the role the use of new software and IT solutions can play in the area of
sustainability will also occupy more and more managers in the coming year.
Martin Hofer, Managing Director of the valantic Competence Center Supply Chain Excellence in Munich, emphasizes:
“In many companies, 2021 will be the year in which they begin to implement efficient sustainability strategies through the use of innovative IT systems or expand them massively. For example, intelligent software could help to reduce the use of materials in manufacturing companies through sustainability-oriented production planning and control.
The aim is to make supply chains and logistics processes more efficient and thereby significantly reduce the use of resources for production, storage, and transport. The design of production and delivery networks is noticeably more geared towards sustainability criteria.
We estimate that company can reduce their CO2 emissions by between 10 and 35 percent through optimized logistics alone, which can also relieve the burden on their own wallet,” says Hofer.
Green IT is of course the logical consequence. All in
all, “green” digitization would significantly reduce the company's ecological
footprint.
3. Multi-Experience Management
The topic of user experience - the
way people operate and interact with technology and software systems - has been
an important topic in IT and software development for years.
Reto Rutz, Managing Director at valantic CEC in St. Gallen (Switzerland), which specializes in digital commerce solutions are certain:
"In 2021, the increasing use of new worlds of
experience such as virtual and augmented reality, voice and gesture control or
smart AI-assisted assistants to change the interaction between people and digital
systems again.

Year, New Horizon”
For example, we are currently developing prototypes to provide customers with a completely different, enhanced shopping experience through augmented reality.
For example, additional information such as product variants, price offers or customer ratings are added virtually to the object of purchase via mobile devices.
At the same time, the online shopping experience also merges offline - in stores that allow 24/7 access, purchases, in-store navigation, and collections. And of course,
the use
of language assistants, artificial intelligence, or multi-sensory interfaces
such as wearables is also being considered here,” says the digital experience
specialist Rutz.
4. Hyper-Automation and Robotic
Process Automation
According to Gartner, hyper-automation was already one of the most important strategic technology trends this year.
The analyst firm understands this to mean the possibility of
complete automation of work steps, among other things. through the use of
machine learning and AI.

Scope? Briefly Explain”
“From 'real' artificial intelligence,” says Rüdiger Hoffmann, managing director, and digitization specialist at the valantic subsidiary LINKIT,
“we will certainly still be a few years of development in 2021. However, many companies are already relying on forerunners of AI such as Robotic Process Automation to automate simple, currently, still manual work processes based on algorithms and sets of rules.
"With hyper-automation, the next development may already be on the
agenda of many CIOs, says Hoffmann to implement the end-to-end
automation of complex business processes in the future.
5. Smart Workplaces with Virtual
Assistance and Conversational Artificial Intelligence
One consequence of Corona and the triumph of working in the home office is the realization that workplaces have to become smarter. Access to IT must be possible from anywhere.
Employees are
increasingly receiving support from technologies such as virtual assistance and
conversational AI in their daily work.

Assistant 2021”
Andreas Winter, Business Unit Manager Enterprise Software Engineering and expert for Conversational AI at Atlantic, therefore also predicts:
“Smart workplaces, via which all data and tools are available anywhere, anytime and free of media disruptions, will become the central digital work platform in 2021.
In the age of voice assistants like Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant, voice-controlled aids can provide companies with valuable advantages.
Conversational AI with Voicebots, Chatbots and
Virtual Assistants takes care of administrative services, simplifies
communication, and leads to even greater process automation,” says Winter.
6. Data Literacy, Realtime Intelligence
and Predictive Analytics

According to analyzes by the German Internet operator DE-CIX, the amount of data at the largest German Internet a node in Frankfurt recently rose to an unbelievable 10 terabits per second due to the corona pandemic and has almost doubled in just five years.
For
companies, this gigantic increase does not only mean that they have to invest
in expanding their data networks. The question of what conclusions and what
knowledge can be drawn from the data is also becoming increasingly important.
Anastasios Christodoulou, Managing Director at the Valantic Business Analytics Competence Center in Hamburg knows that the topic of data literacy
i.e. the ability to competently manage, interpret and use data - will become an increasingly important core competence for his customers in 2021.
“Real-time intelligence processes that analyze data in real-time, as well as predictive analytics, which enables predictive forecasts for the future from existing data, will become competitive skills in 2021,”
says the business
analytics expert. “Our customers from the world of insurance and health
insurance, in particular, are increasingly relying on these trend technologies in
order to expand their data-based knowledge of their customers,” says
Christodoulou.
7. 5G Enables the Internet of Things
and Industry 4.0
“Read More: - 5G Technology ”
The Internet of Things (IoT) will become the standard in networked companies in 2021. The 5G mobile communications standard is an important prerequisite for Industry 4.0.
Faster
transmission speeds and low latency times promise new applications that could
revolutionize logistics. The entire supply chain can be controlled and
monitored in real-time using IoT sensors.
Falk von Falkenhausen, Managing Director of the valantic Competence Center Supply Chain Excellence, emphasizes:
“5G technology enables real-time IT scenarios in which the automation and linking of complex systems are implemented. But: Even in 2021, there will still be no nationwide coverage in Germany with 5G. Therefore, there will be a very heterogeneous technology mix for data communication parallels to 5G for a long time.
5G will take a while
before it will be established in the industry in the coming years, ”said von Falkenhausen.
